According to 2008 data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 12,000 people were killed nationally – one every 30 minutes – in traffic accidents where at least one driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Now consider that drivers distracted by texting are 3 to 4 times slower than drunk drivers to apply the brakes, and you can begin to see that far too many of our friends and family are killed unnecessarily every year. The painful but self-evident truth is that each one is one too many.
